File Tree

Browse, create, and organize dashboards, notebooks, and saved items from a panel docked next to the sidebar.

The file tree shows everything on the Dashboards page as a tree you can keep open while you work: folders, dashboards, notebooks, and standalone charts, funnels, and Sankeys. Use it to jump between items, look inside a dashboard or notebook, and file things into folders without leaving the page you’re on.

Opening the file tree

Hover Dashboards in the sidebar and click the tree icon on its right. The panel opens next to the sidebar and stays open across pages and visits until you close it with × in its header or click the icon again.

Drag the panel’s right edge to resize it, and double-click the edge to reset its width.

The file tree is available on wider screens only. On mobile, use the Dashboards page.

The header has three buttons:

+Create a dashboard, notebook, chart, funnel, Sankey, or folder at the top level

×Close the panel

Browsing

  • Click a folder to expand or collapse it. Which folders are expanded is remembered per project.
  • Click a dashboard, notebook, chart, funnel, or Sankey to open it. The page you’re on is highlighted.
  • Dashboards and notebooks with something inside them have an arrow on the left. Click it to list their charts, funnels, Sankeys, and retentions, and click one to open it.

Switching dashboards from the tree keeps the selected date range.

Searching and sorting

Type in the search box to find items by name across all folders. Folders themselves aren’t listed in results, but each result shows the folder it lives in.

The sort button next to the search box uses the same options as the Dashboards page, and both stay in sync.

Creating items

Right-click a folder to create something inside it: New dashboard, New notebook, New chart, New funnel, New Sankey, or New folder. The folder opens so you can see the new item.

To create at the top level, use the + in the header, or right-click the empty space below the last item.

Moving items

Drag an item to file it somewhere else:

Drop it onIt moves to
A folderThat folder
Any other itemThe folder that item is in
Empty space belowThe top level

Hold an item over a collapsed folder for a moment to expand it, so you can drop it deeper. You can also right-click an item and choose Move to… to pick a folder from a list.

Items can’t be dragged while a search is active, or if you don’t have permission to edit dashboards.

Renaming

Right-click an item and choose Rename, or focus it and press F2. The name becomes editable in place: press Enter or click away to save, or Esc to cancel.

Item menu

Right-click any item for its actions. They match the ⋯ menu on the Dashboards page:

DeleteEverything except the built-in dashboard

Deleting a folder moves its contents up a level. See Item actions for what deleting other items removes.
